About

Purbanchal University (PU) was established by the government of Nepal in 1994 with the aim of decentralizing higher education and expanding opportunities for education across Nepal. It is located in Sundarharaicha, Gothgau, Morang having 545-hectare of land in University premises. One of the key objectives of PU was to develop higher education in the country in a decentralized manner and extend the reach of higher education to various regions. PU plays a significant role in promoting socio-economic transformation in Nepal through the provision of quality education that is appropriate for a quality life and sustainable future. One of the notable achievements of PU is its authorization to conduct the MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) program. The university has obtained permission from the Nepal Government to utilize Koshi Hospital in Biratnagar as a teaching hospital for the program.

With 7 diverse faculties—covering Arts, Law and Education; Medical and Allied Sciences; Management; Engineering; and Science and Technology, PU offers a rich variety of programs, including 1 MPhil-PhD, 27 Master's, and 43 Bachelor's courses through its 9 constituent’s campus that are located at Gothgau and Biratnagar, Morang. Apart of constituent campuses, the university provides higher education through more than 130 affiliated campuses across Nepal.

PU's commitment to academic development and quality education is evident through its fully autonomous status as a public university. This autonomy allows the university to shape its policies and programs according to the needs of the community it serves. With its affordable fee structure, expansive campus, and focus on quality education, PU is poised to make a substantial impact on the academic landscape of Nepal.

Through its dedication to quality education, affordable fees, and a large, welcoming campus, Purbanchal University continues to empower students and shape Nepal’s academic future with heart and purpose.
